Risk & Compliance Screening and Data Management specialist, Datanomic, today announced that it has signed a strategic technology alliance with The CJK Dictionary Institute (CJKI), one of the world's leading providers of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic lexical databases.

Further extension of global protection for Sanctions, Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) screening through Datanomic’s integration of CJKI’s comprehensive Arabic names databases

Cambridge, UK – 26 July 2010 – Risk & Compliance Screening and Data Management specialist, Datanomic, today announced that it has signed a strategic technology alliance with The CJK Dictionary Institute (CJKI), one of the world’s leading providers of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic lexical databases. The partnership enables Datanomic to integrate CJKI’s Database of Arab Names in Arabic (DANA) and Database of Arab Names (DAN), which covers seven million Arabic names and their variants, within its award-winning dn:Director for Sanctions & PEP (Politically Exposed Persons) Screening software to enable financial services companies located within or trading with the Arabic-speaking world to reliably and accurately match their Arabic data against Sanctions and Watch Lists.

With numerous compliance directives around fraud prevention and crime, financial services organisations have had to fortify their systems against access by money launderers, criminal gangs, known terrorists and entities whose activities may compromise foreign policy or national security. Increasingly sophisticated concealment efforts by such groups mean that even with purportedly cutting edge technology solutions, the cost and complexity of matching customer records against the millions of names within international Sanctions, Watch Lists and PEP lists can become a major administrative burden for compliance departments. When the complexity of data held in several different languages, the fact that most international and commercial lists are in Latin characters, the multiple variants of Arabic script transliterations, and even common spelling mistakes are factored into the checks, it’s clear to see that global enterprises face a significant linguistic challenge.

“Most existing solutions on the market fall short of the accuracy required because their transliteration/transcription capability is too basic, and because they do not recognise the massive number of variant Latin forms of Arabic names,” said Dr. Jonathan Pell, CEO, Datanomic. “This has often resulted in companies adopting a manual process for checking data against Sanctions lists that is extremely time consuming, almost impossible to scale as lists grow, and prone to error, leaving the organisation open to reputational and financial risk. Our alliance with CJKI spells the future of multi-language matching and reliable transcription.”

“By embedding our resources, Datanomic is significantly enhancing its own software technology and we believe that gives them a huge advantage over their competition. Their enhanced ability to recognise more variants of Arabic names ensures even greater accuracy of results, essential when the stakes for financial organisations are so high,” said Jack Halpern, CEO, The CJK Dictionary Institute. “With our new database of over seven million entries, Datanomic customers can be confident that any potential false negatives will not go undetected.”

Datanomic intends to expand its alliance with CJKI to include extensive Chinese, Japanese and Korean lexical resources to provide market-leading linguistic matching within the Asia Pacific region, into which it has recently extended its sales operations.

Datanomic’s dn:Director for Sanctions & PEP Screening software is used to screen in excess of five billion client records every month, in more than 100 countries. The solution is the de facto standard for risk and compliance screening for the UK financial services sector, with several of the top ten global Retail Banks, half of the UK’s top ten Wealth/Asset Managers, one of the London Stock Exchange’s oldest stockbroking firms, and some of the UK’s largest Insurance companies all using its technology.

About CJK Institute, Inc.

The CJK Dictionary Institute, Inc. (CJKI) specializes in Chinese, Japanese and Korean (CJK) and Arabic lexicography. The principal activity of CJKI is the development and continuous expansion of lexical databases of general vocabulary, proper nouns and technical terms for CJK languages, containing over 20 million entries. CJKI has also developed databases and romanisation systems of Arabic proper nouns, the world’s most comprehensive Spanish-English dictionary, Vietnamese dictionaries, and various others. In addition, CJKI offers a full range of professional consulting services on CJK linguistics and lexicography. www.kanji.org/cjk/index.htm

Cambridge, UK – 22 July 2010 – Enterprise data management and compliance specialist, Datanomic, will participate as an exhibitor at the TDWI World Conference 2010 (http://tdwi.org/SD2010) at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego, August 15-20, 2010 (Booth 408). Datanomic will be showcasing the company’s collaborative and single view approach to data management, built on the core functionality of dn:Director, helping data stewards and data analysts to seamlessly resolve issues with data consistency and standardization that underpins business-critical applications.

“Most organizations are still struggling with inaccurate or incomplete data spread across disparate silos and systems. Despite investing in Business Intelligence, Master Data Management and Data Warehouse technologies, many have not solved the existing underlying data problems around Single Customer View,” said Jeremy Lovett, Vice President Data Management Applications for Datanomic. “However, achieving a single view of customer data not only increases customer service levels, but also de-risks data migration projects. Datanomic’s dn:Director software sits on top of solutions such as Master Data Management and Business Intelligence, allowing organizations to orchestrate how business rules and data governance should be implemented, saving considerable manual time and effort through its automation.”

Datanomic’s Enterprise Data Management software, dn:Director, helps global organizations improve operational performance, maintain regulatory compliance, streamline business processes, minimize risk and seize more opportunities. dn:Director’s flexibility and ease-of-use enables business owners of data and technical teams to collaborate on business-critical data issues, identifying and eradicating problems in customer, financial and product data, across any database, via a central console.

Compliance and data management specialists, Datanomic, today announced the availability of its dn:Director for HR solution, designed specifically to assist Global Human Resources (HR) Directors and their teams to quickly and easily resolve errors in their employee data and build an accurate ‘Single View of Employee’ (SVE).

Solution ensures accuracy of employee data,
helping Global Heads of HR execute Human Capital Management initiatives more effectively

Cambridge, UK – 16 July 2010 – Compliance and data management specialists, Datanomic, today announced the availability of its dn:Director for HR solution, designed specifically to assist Global Human Resources (HR) Directors and their teams to quickly and easily resolve errors in their employee data and build an accurate ‘Single View of Employee’ (SVE). Bringing data from multiple discrete and often incompatible systems, the SVE created by dn:Director for HR ensures fit-for-purpose data underpins the organisation’s business critical applications, such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Talent Management (TM) and Human Capital Management (HCM), maximising system ROI, talent retention and employee performance.

A large enterprise recognises that the success of its HR initiatives rely heavily on the accuracy of its employee data, including name, National Insurance/Social Security number, benefits and tax coding, compensation and job title details. Data can be highly fragmented, held in multiple systems across an organisation, in differing formats, can be structured or unstructured, owned and maintained by individual business units or the IT department. As a consequence, often there is a lack of overall employee data visibility or a ‘single view’, which can lead to a myriad of costly and time-consuming complications for the enterprise, potentially resulting in misallocation of resources or financial irregularities such as staff overpayments.

dn:Director for HR provides a complete data management solution tailored to the needs of the HR team, with pre-configured tools allowing them to quickly take control of their employee data and create a consistent and accurate SVE. Built on the core capabilities of Datanomic’s award-winning dn:Director software – which saw Datanomic prestigiously ranked as ‘Visionaries’ in the latest Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Quality Tools – the solution de-risks HR migration and HCM initiatives by ensuring they are utilising fit-for-purpose data. dn:Director for HR’s extensive, configurable and auditable data management capabilities also ensure the HR team is compliant with enterprise-wide data governance programmes, industry regulations or compliance legislation. The solution can work simultaneously with data from multiple sources across the enterprise, standardising it into a uniform format before automatically identifying and resolving duplicated entries or errors, such as missing National Insurance/Social Security numbers or a mis-match of bank account and sort-code details.

dn:Director was recently deployed by Royal Mail Group, one of the UK’s largest employers, who worked closely with Datanomic to profile and standardise the quality of its employee data – approximately 200,000 individuals – almost 1% of the entire UK working population.

“If HR Directors believe that the implementation of an HCM solution alone would address the issues associated with effectively managing employee data, they are missing a trick,” said Jeremy Lovett, Vice President, Data Management Applications Division for Datanomic. “One of the most fundamental challenges of any enterprise system initiative is the preparation of data, to ensure that it’s accurate and fit-for-purpose. Without such effort, many of the results generated by the system could be unreliable, potentially jeopardising the entire initiative. Our new solution provides a one-stop-shop for profiling, analysing and transforming data in a collaborative way to ensure HR data records are complete, helping HR departments to fully maximise their internal talent, whilst the web-based reporting of dn:Dashboard allows real-time response to report requests from the lines of business.”

To celebrate the launch of dn:Director for HR, Datanomic is offering the chance for HR Directors to request a free 90-minute QuickStats Workshop to gain an initial insight into the state of their employee data, and how to improve its fitness-for-purpose. To request a QuickStats Workshop, HR Directors should complete the request form on the Datanomic website at: www.datanomic.com/quickstats. The company is also offering webinar introductions to the solution, registration for which can be made via the company’s website.

SAFE Exposure Index is an optional add-on solution for Datanomic customers that prioritises the relative sensitivity of risk matches using contextual data such as the nature, category, global reach and country of origin of the risk under investigation.

Also available to Datanomic customers is SAFE View, SBS’ comprehensive research tool, which provides detailed profiles with an immediate snapshot of all links, related entities and information, and SAFE Audit Reports, an archive of all changes and bulletins to global sanctions lists, such as OFAC, EU, DFAT and U.S. State Dept, providing clients with a complete “point in time” record of sanction lists going back to the year 2000. SAFE View and SAFE Audit Reports are valuable tools that facilitate efficient alert investigation and research functions.

“Safe Banking Systems leads the industry in terms of analysing PEP lists and risk data sources to identify links between suspicious individuals,” said Simon Pearson, Vice President of Risk & Compliance Screening at Datanomic. “SBS’ technology complements Datanomic’s Sanctions and PEP Screening software by adding an extra dimension of risk scoring through entity resolution, which identifies and links prominent and notorious entities and risk ranks them based on their relative political and criminal exposure. SBS’ Exposure Index uses mathematically based logic and a broad range of factors such as risk category, country, relative exposure, relationships and context to provide a better understanding of the relative severity of a hit. SBS’ methodology complements Datanomic’s own sophisticated risk scoring capabilities for those organisations who wish to go even further in prioritising relative risk scoring.”

Whilst Government watch lists and commercial data providers offer broad coverage of PEPs and other high-risk customers, the lack of prioritisation according to severity score within those lists causes regulated organisations problems when determining which cases to investigate first. For example, investigating a case for a terrorist in Pakistan is of much higher priority than investigating a lower risk hit such as a PEP in Luxembourg.

“SBS has a long and successful history in this industry,” added Pearson. “Now the benefits of SBS’ innovative solutions are available to Datanomic customers.”

David Schiffer, Founder and President of Safe Banking Systems added, “We are excited to be working with Datanomic. Their dn:Director Sanctions and PEP Screening software combined with our SAFE Exposure Index, SAFE View and SAFE Audit Reports, offer customers a powerful solution to rigorously and systematically identify heightened-risk entities within vast customer databases. Our integrated approach to managing risk provides organisations with the sophisticated tools and solutions needed to meet the challenges of global compliance screening, KYC and EDD.”

Enterprise Screening and Data Management specialists, Datanomic, today announced that is has been positioned by Gartner, Inc., in the “Visionaries” quadrant of the “Magic Quadrant for Data Quality Tools.”

Analyst Evaluation based on Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute: Datanomic has 4th Consecutive Year of Triple Digit Growth, Expanding Product Portfolio, and Global Expansion

Cambridge, UK 5 July 2010 – Enterprise Screening and Data Management specialists, Datanomic, today announced that is has been positioned by Gartner, Inc., in the “Visionaries” quadrant of the “Magic Quadrant for Data Quality Tools.”[i] Datanomic believes its visionary status is underpinned by the significant traction it has made over the last 12 months, including its fourth consecutive year of triple digit growth, the opening of a new UK headquarters in Cambridge, as well as new offices in North America and Singapore in response to growing global customer demand.

In the report, which assesses the leading international providers of data quality solutions based on completeness of vision and ability to execute, Gartner defines “Visionaries” as organisations that “demonstrate a strong understanding of current and future market trends and directions, such as the importance of ongoing monitoring of data quality, engagement of business subject matter experts and delivery of data quality services. They exhibit capabilities aligned with these trends, but may lack the market presence, brand recognition, customer base and resources of larger vendors.”

“We are delighted to be included in the report and positioned as a visionary,” said Dr Jonathan Pell, CEO, Datanomic. “It’s gratifying that a leading independent and influential analyst firm recognises us. Over the past year we have delivered new versions of our award-winning dn:Director software and new solutions that address specific and challenging business issues. We continue to experience record growth levels, while many of our competitors have seen their revenues drop, and our rapidly growing global customer base is the best testament to our vision, innovation and commercial success.”

According to the report’s authors, prospects for the data quality tools market continue to be buoyant, despite the challenging global economic situation.

According to the report, “the market for data quality tools was worth approximately $727 million in software-related revenue as of the end of 2009, and is forecast to experience a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12% during the next five years.”

Version 8 of Datanomic’s award winning dn:Director software was launched in April 2010, delivering collaborative data management for global enterprises. Datanomic also continued to extend and update its range of business solutions built upon the dn:Director core technology with the recent release of Version 5 of its Risk & Compliance Screening application and a new Business-to-Consumer (B2C) Marketing solution.

Risk & compliance screening and data management specialists, Datanomic, today announced that it is moving its UK office to new premises in Cambridge, UK, to support its expanding business across EMEA, the US and Asia Pacific.

New centre for European operations follows creation of US subsidiary and
expansion into Asia-Pac as global demand continues to rise

Cambridge, UK – 5 July 2010 – Risk & compliance screening and data management specialists, Datanomic, today announced that it is moving its UK office to new premises in Cambridge, UK, to support its expanding business across EMEA, the US and Asia Pacific. Increasing regulation and the efficiencies gained from a single and holistic view of data is continuing to fuel increasing customer demand and market momentum, which has seen the company increase its global workforce by 35 per cent since January 2010 alone.

In the same period, Datanomic has increased global strategic partner numbers by 25 per cent and customer numbers have increased by 15 per cent, mainly from within the Financial Services, Telecommunications and Retail industries across the globe. Revenue, company and installed customer growth for 2010 is expected to be consistent with the current rate of year-on-year performance growth, which still sees Datanomic bucking the economic trend.

Earlier this month, Datanomic announced the opening of its first Asia Pacific office in Singapore, with satellite offices in Thailand, Australia, Malaysia and Hong Kong, in direct response to growing global demand for the company’s flagship dn:Director enterprise portfolio, including its award-winning dn:Director for Sanctions & PEP (Politically Exposed Persons) Screening software.

The news closely follows the company’s US incorporation of Datanomic Inc., with offices in New York City, New York, and its new offices in Singapore.

Jonathan Pell, CEO, Datanomic, commented, “We are delighted that our hard work and best efforts are reaping rewards in terms of further worldwide company and customer momentum. Our new Cambridge office will enable us to better respond to the needs of our customers and will support growth in all of our functional units, including product development, technical services, quality assurance, and global business strategy.”

Telecom operators that cannot get a clear ‘Single Customer View’ are jeopardising the quality of their customer service, and risking revenue loss from high value customers with bundled services across multiple products, according to data management specialists, Datanomic.

Poor data quality hindering customer service across multiple channels and bundled services, says Datanomic

Cambridge, UK – 2 July 2010 – Telecom operators that cannot get a clear ‘Single Customer View’ are jeopardising the quality of their customer service, and risking revenue loss from high value customers with bundled services across multiple products, according to data management specialists, Datanomic.

Most telecom operators are still struggling with inaccurate or incomplete data spread across disparate silos and systems. Despite operators investing in Business Intelligence, Master Data Management and Data Warehouse technologies, many are still not addressing the existing underlying data problems around Single Customer View. Customers, however, expect service excellence, and believe every provider representative should have a full and instant knowledge of their complete history across all products and services. Without reliable data, problems such as inaccurate billing, wrong addressing, and accidental mis-selling of inappropriate or undeliverable services become difficult to prevent and time-consuming to resolve, destroying accrued brand loyalty. With many operators offering bundled packages and services, poor customer interaction now places multiple revenue streams at risk, as well as any opportunity to sell future products and services. The stakes of managing customers’ relationships have never been higher.

“Today’s consumers have more choice, and products have become increasingly complex,” said Jeremy Lovett, Vice President Data Management Applications for Datanomic. “However, many telecom operators continue to struggle with satisfying consumers across multiple channels and a myriad of different services because they cannot gain a single, meaningful view of the underlying data about their customers. Achieving a single view of customer data not only increases customer service levels, but also de-risks data migration projects. Datanomic’s dn:Director sits on top of solutions such as Master Data Management and Business Intelligence, allowing telecom operators to orchestrate how business rules and data governance should be implemented through a single central resource, saving considerable manual time and effort through its automation.”

Described by industry analysts as “arguably the most flexible data quality product,” Datanomic’s dn:Director provides a single, unified platform that enables both business and IT personnel, such as data stewards, business analysts and owners of data, to identify and rectify compromised data which can place operations at risk. As a single product that encompasses profiling, analysis and transformation, dn:Director enables better understanding, improvement, protection and control of data quality for all types of structured and non-structured, real-time and non-real time information.

Datanomic is offering a free QuickStats Workshop to selected telecoms operators, providing an in-depth analysis of customer data to identify potential weaknesses in quality, accuracy, and consistency to improve operational performance and prevent the issues that can trigger customer churn. More information about the QuickStats Workshop can be found at http://www.datanomic.com/solutions/b2c-marketing/quickstats-workshop/.

Datanomic replaces several in-house screening solutions in line with overall consolidation strategy

Cambridge, UK – 28 June 2010 – Risk & Compliance Screening and Data Management specialists, Datanomic, today announced that the Irish Nationwide Building Society (INBS), one of Ireland’s oldest financial institutions, has standardized its existing screening processes on Datanomic’s award winning dn:Director for Sanctions & PEP (Politically Exposed Persons) Screening software. The enterprise-wide risk and compliance software solution will replace the Society’s current in-house financial sanctions and PEP screening processes as part of a consolidation strategy.

“We take our responsibilities as a financial institution very seriously and have been screening for PEPs for several years, prior to any legal obligation or regulatory stipulation,” said Killian McMahon, Head of Internal Audit, Irish Nationwide Building Society. “We knew of Datanomic and the technical strengths of the dn:Director technology, but challenged them to improve upon our in-house procedures, and consolidate our processes while providing good value. Datanomic delivered on that challenge and provided us with a fuzzy logic matching capability that is superior to anything we could produce in-house.”

Datanomic’s dn:Director for Sanctions & PEP Screening software will enable INBS to consolidate its in-house screening systems, which cover its operations in Ireland and the UK, and PEPs. The new system will be used to screen common customer data, such as names and addresses within the UK and Ireland.

“We were impressed by Datanomic’s client base, which included financial institutions such as Barclays, who would only select a solution that represents a best practice standard,” added Mr. McMahon. “This, along with dn:Director’s superior functionality, gave us confidence in both the technology and in the company as a whole. We know we have the back up necessary and the PEP list controls in place to ensure legislative and regulatory compliance. We now have an effective and consolidated platform that addresses all of our financial sanctions requirements.”

Datanomic’s Sanctions & PEP Screening software is currently being used by customers to screen in excess of five billion client records every month, in more than 100 countries. Increasing international demand has resulted in the company opening a subsidiary in the USA and extending its sales operations into the AsiaPacific region. Datanomic’s solution has become the de facto standard for risk and compliance screening by the UK financial services sector, with several of the top ten global Retail Banks, half of the UK’s Top 10 Wealth/Asset Managers, one of the oldest stock broking firms on the London Stock Exchange, and some of the UK’s largest Insurance companies all using its award-winning technology.

Cambridge, UK – 21 June 2010 – Mobile telecom operators offering mobile money transfer services in emerging markets are at risk of inadvertently sponsoring terrorism, money laundering and human trafficking by failing to screen against sanctions and Watch Lists, according to risk & compliance screening and data management specialists, Datanomic. With the rapid increase in mobile liquidity, mobile operators face greater risk exposure of a sanctions breach, yet many think they are exempt from compliance with stringent financial regulations or treat it as an afterthought.

As mobile phone operators step in to fill the need for a secure money transfer service in emerging markets, such as Africa, the Far East, and the Middle East, they are becoming the de-facto global banking service for the world’s unbanked population. The Middle East, for example, has an extremely good banking infrastructure, but a large population of immigrant workers who want an inexpensive means of transferring money back home. As a result, many mobile operators are acting more and more like financial services organisations in the services they deliver. Yet few realise the extent to which they are also becoming exposed. Operators should brace themselves for a raft of anti-terrorism and anti-money laundering legislation or risk severe financial penalties from local and international regulators.

“In some countries, such as Africa, there are more mobile phones than people with bank accounts, and historically there have been very limited ways of transferring money,” said Dr Jonathan Pell, CEO of Datanomic. “The introduction of mobile money transfer services represents a significant commercial opportunity to mobile operators, which is also providing an important social infrastructure, particularly in remote regions with no existing banking or branches. However, as operators deliver financial services to customers, their risk profile and exposure rises immensely. Not all operators realise they must comply with US OFAC regulations, EU Directives, as well as national and international anti-terrorism laws. Others are aware of such legislation, but treat it as an after thought. If mobile operators are to behave as a bank, they must comply with the same responsibilities around rigorous risk screening controls as the financial services community.”

According to Portio Research, the worldwide mobile payments volume – denoting the face value of purchases and transactions through mobile handsets – stood at USD $68.7 billion in 2009, an increase of USD $45.6 billion in 2008, and is set to surge nine-fold to reach USD $633.4 billion by end-2014. In 2009, there were 81.3 million mobile payment users worldwide and this number is forecast to grow over six-fold to reach nearly 490 million by the end of 2014, seeing the worldwide penetration of mobile payment users increasing over four-fold to reach almost 8 percent by end-2014.

As the leading customer screening solution for Mobile Money Transfer, Datanomic is helping telecommunications companies mitigate their global exposure to risk and terrorist activities. Datanomic is widely deployed by Vodafone’s M-PESA using its dn:Director for Sanctions & PEP (Politically Exposed Persons) Screening solution. Datanomic is screening millions of customers every week in Afghanistan, Kenya, South Africa and Tanzania, and will be screening many more in Egypt, Fiji and beyond as the service is rolled-out to even more of Vodafone’s international markets. The scalability of Datanomic’s solution means it is capable of screening all of Vodafone’s 300 million customers globally. Datanomic’s solution checks customer names against international Sanctions and Politically Exposed Persons Watch Lists, to enable Vodafone to comply with worldwide anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulations.

As the de-facto Risk & Compliance screening solution, dn:Director for Sanctions & PEP screening is now systematically checking more than five billion client records every month.

Datanomic’s solutions have already been implemented by some of the world’s largest banks, insurers, asset and wealth managers and other financial services institutions to reduce their global Compliance risk, and this pattern is now spreading to other industries. In addition to the telecommunications industry, Datanomic’s risk and compliance screening software is being adopted in other non-financial services industries that require stringent Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance requirements, such as the diamond, parcel, freight forwarding and logistics, and tobacco industries. The company forecasts acceleration in the adoption of its technology across diverse industries facing ever increasing Anti-Money Laundering, Counter-Terrorist Financing, and Risk & Compliance requirements.
