“When we evaluated dn:Director we liked the fact that it provided integrated functionality through a single interface; unlike other products, we did not need a collection of tools to fulfill all of our requirements.”

HR must pay closer attention to accuracy of personnel records in order to achieve ‘Single View of Employee’, says Datanomic

Differing data formats and standards complicate management of employee data records

HR departments must pay closer attention to the accuracy of personnel data records within their people-based management systems if they are to achieve a reliable ‘Single View of Employee’, according to Compliance and Data Management specialists, Datanomic. Differing formats and standards can complicate the management of the data records of employees and those individuals working for partner organisations that are part of the learning management and compliance training programmes. These complications can be especially damaging to the success of any project to migrate employee data into new management systems.

With the move to pay-for-performance and the surge in deployment of people-based management applications, migrating employee records from old legacy systems presents significant challenges, which are often overlooked when embarking on new HR IT projects. In its ongoing work with enterprise customers and the management of their HR data, Datanomic has identified the five most common data challenges found in such scenarios. These include:

  1. Incorrect recording of company car tax data, such as engine size and emissions
  2. Invalid National Insurance Numbers
  3. Individuals with the same National Insurance Number
  4. Pay rates out of line with job roles
  5. People listed as being over the age of 100 and still working

Datanomic provides a one-stop shop for profiling, analysing and transforming data in a collaborative way to ensure HR data records are complete and up-to-date using its award winning dn:Director solution. dn:Director was recently deployed by Royal Mail Group, one of the UK’s largest employers, who worked closely with Datanomic to standardise the quality of its employee data – approximately 200,000 individuals – almost 1% of the entire UK working population.

“We worked with Datanomic to migrate our employee records, locations, work schedules and a plethora of other data from our old legacy systems in order to create a single view of each employee,” said James Venables, Data, Integration, & Security Programme Lead for the People Systems Programme at Royal Mail Group. “We didn’t want to migrate out-of-date or incorrect data into the new system and knew that we needed to go through the important step of extracting and cleansing the data. If the data quality is poor, it can really unhinge the whole programme. We viewed data cleansing as a means of de-risking our HR project. Datanomic’s dn:Director enabled us to look at the quality of our data inside the organisation, allowed us to load all different types of data entities through a single central resource, and saved us considerable manual time and effort through its automation.”

Described by industry analysts as “arguably the most flexible data quality product,” Datanomic’s dn:Director provides a single, unified platform that enables both business and IT personnel, such as data stewards, business analysts and owners of data, to identify and rectify compromised data which can place operations at risk. As a single product that encompasses profiling, analysis and transformation, dn:Director enables better understanding, improvement, protection and control of data quality for all types of structured and non-structured, real-time and non-real time information.
